Abstract
The bacteriological examination of blood drainage tube(Hemovac) used for various major orthopedic operations was made. Total twenty-four tubes used had their tips cultured and tested for the sensitivity for antibiotics in culture positive group. From five of these, bacteriae were grown. The organisms found were a Staphylococcus coagulate negative and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus.
This suggest that, with this simple bacteriological examination of tube tips, the duration of prophylactic antibiotic treatment could be shortened and the selection of sensitive antibiotics in culture positive groups could be possible.
